“Wylie & Bisset consistently provide high standards”

Wylie & Bisset were appointed as internal auditors of North East Scotland College following a tender process undertaken on the merger of Aberdeen College with Banff and Buchan College. Our internal audit plan has covered a wide range of areas including governance, risk management, key systems and value for money reviews. The service covers the College as well as its subsidiary company. The approach taken by Wylie & Bisset LLP has allowed us to obtain maximum benefits from the internal audit service. Throughout the duration of the firm’s appointment, the Board and Senior Managers of the College have been impressed with the high level of senior involvement on the contract, both at the fieldwork stage and the presentation of reports to the Audit and Risk Committee. Audit plans and reports have been of a high standard. The College’s Audit & Risk Committee has commended the approach followed by the firm in terms of clarity, accessibility and relevance with all internal audit service performance targets having been met. The service provided by Graham Gillespie (Engagement Partner, formerly Audit Manager), Ross McLauchlan (Previous Engagement Partner), and Stephen Pringle (Audit Manager) has been of a notably high standard. Staff of Wylie & Bisset have demonstrated a breadth of experience of the public and private sectors in carrying out their duties. Wylie & Bisset know our business and contribute to our successful development.

Roddy Scott, Vice Principal, North East Scotland College

Glasgow Clyde College was formed by the merger of Anniesland College, Cardonald College and Langside College on 1st August 2013. Wylie & Bisset have been the external auditors for Glasgow Clyde College since 2013/14 and have always provided sound advice and a reliable and professional service. Their knowledge and experience of the Scottish College Sector is of a high standard and they are able to provide valuable advice particularly through periods of significant change. Their staff are always approachable and willing to work closely with the College to achieve the required outcomes and, as such, I would have no hesitation in recommending Wylie & Bisset.

Tracy Elliott, Director of Finance, Glasgow Clyde College

Wylie & Bisset have provided the MAT with an external audit service since 2013. Auditors can sometimes make staff feel under undue scrutiny, but with Wylie & Bisset we are supported by a professional, friendly team from junior members to the senior partners of the company. They all have extensive knowledge and experience of academy accounting. They keep up to date with current legislation and provide accurate accounts and reports. They regularly attend meetings with the Accounting Officer and to Board meetings, nothing is too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend Wylie & Bisset for their professional, efficient and friendly service.

Ann Silcock, Strategic Finance Officer, The Wythenshawe Catholic Academy Trust

We made the decision to move our Internal Audit work and we looked for a firm that could provide value beyond just the traditional Internal Audit work. We were looking for a good fit and a good partner. After an extensive review, we chose Wylie & Bisset LLP to be our partner. The team at Wylie & Bisset LLP have proved to be very knowledgeable, responsive and focused on our specific requirements. The work they have completed has been aligned with our risks and has enhanced our internal controls. They ask the right kinds of questions and don’t get lost in the details. If issues arise, they talk to us about options, and together we generate solutions.

Andrew Broadbent, Director of Finance, New College Durham

In 2013 we appointed Wylie & Bisset to provide internal audit services to Birkenhead Sixth Form College. I am pleased to say that they have not disappointed, bringing a fresh and insightful approach to internal audit. Despite the distance from their head office to the College they have not missed an Audit Committee meeting and have attended on a number of other occasions to talk through audit plans and appraise management of developments in the sector. Their reporting style is informative without being overly fussy. We have changed our audit plan mid-year and altered the dates for the audit visits and Wylie & Bisset have always been flexible enough to accept our requests, with a smile! I would not hesitate to recommend the team to other educational institutions.

Karen Wiggins, Director of Finance, Birkenhead 6th Form College

Wylie & Bisset have demonstrated extensive knowledge of the FE Sector and have taken an active role in monitoring the Colleges risk register as part of their attendance at Audit Committee. They have worked closely with the Colleges Internal Auditors to assess the levels of risk at the College. They have identified key risk items in the management letter to inform the board. Their staff have been approachable and supportive, especially outside the formal period when discussing potential issues or uncertainties in respect of accounting treatments.

Stephen Cain, Director of Financial Services, Wirral Met College

Wylie & Bisset won a second 5 year contract in 2010 for internal audit services. Although based in Glasgow they have delivered an efficient internal audit service. Report turnaround is very efficient and reports are very clear and always include benchmarks. They have responded to requests from the audit committee even in areas where there are few recommendations. Where they have been able to rely upon stable systems and controls, there has been opportunity to undertake value for money reviews of different areas of the college. I have found Wylie & Bisset to be a proactive and professional organisation and I would confidently recommend them

Conor Edwards, Finance Director, Winstanley College
